Urethral obstruction in cats in one of the most common but easily curable life threatening emergencies seen in general and emergency practice. Success rates for relieving the obstruction and for long term survival can, and should, approach 100%. This depends upon prompt and accurate assessment of each case, careful but rapid stabilisation prior to urethral catheterisation and optimizing your technique for catheterisation.
