Acute pancreatitis is one of the most common GI presentations to veterinary practice around the world. There have been many recent publications addressing diagnosis of this condition, and to a lesser extent management. But what really has changed in the past decade? Are we any further in being able to help manage this condition.

Caroline Mansfield BSc BVMS MVM PhD MANZCVS DipECVIM-CA Dr Caroline Mansfield graduated from Murdoch University, Perth sometime last century and worked in mixed animal and small animal practice in Australia and the UK before completing a 3-year residency in small animal medicine at University College, Dublin. She developed an interest in gastroenterology during that time and has continued that clinical and research passion since her return to Australia in 2001. She has authored over 60 peer-reviewed publications, and also numerous textbook chapters. Current clinical research projects include mechanisms involved in canine inflammatory bowel disease, both the endocrine and exocrine pancreas and establishing what viral communities exist in the canine intestine. She is board certified in internal medicine, gaining a Diploma of the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in 2001. Caroline is currently Past President of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists. From 2001 until 2010 she was employed at Murdoch University.
